Lately the words of Yolanda Adams' song "My Desire" have being playing in my heart and mind. The chorus sings:
My heart's desire (my desire is) is to be a vessel, Lord.
I want to be used by you
Please let me be
This song was released in 1995, so when I heard one of the commentators mention on the Broncos/Patriots game I really felt like it was a nudge for me. Then there was A Thorn Among Roses post telling us "don't just think about serving this year...just do it. and do it well."
So this morning the girls and I headed over to Midwest Food Bank and served. The girls were thrilled to be able to help others. They were so into it that we managed to stay a little over 3 hours. So in the midst of our serving I reflected on what I was thankful for in that moment.
Three Gifts in the Moment of Serving:
1) the physical strength and ability to lift and move objects
2) gas in my car to get us to the food bank
3) a heart that wants to serve others
Today was our first time serving at the food bank, but it definitely will not be our last.

Very Cool! Not only a blessing for you, but a wonderful experience for your children! Very Nice!
The girls really did enjoy helping others. My oldest daughter said "we are like missionaries". We had a great discussion about giving back and the joy receive in it.
I think that is so important to do with kids. I love it. Not only does it give practical insight into serving, it opens up great talks. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for stopping by Alia Joy. You are right, it does open up great conversations. My 7 year old compared our work to missionaries so we had a great talk about what a missionary does and such.
